This
month we are going to take a look at the The
Bureau of the Public Debt website
After
the xmas rush, and reading how consumers were burning their
plastics, I decided to see what the goverments findings
on debt was. Well, on January 13th I found out that the
Debt Held by the Public was 4,417,573,913,146.62. Back in
September 30, 1997 the debt held by the public was 3,789,667,546,849.60.
Below
are the Intragovernmental Holdings for the same period.

The
goverment considers Debt Held by the Public as all Federal
debt held by individuals, corporations, state or local governments,
foreign governments, and other entities outside of the United
States Government less Federal Financing Bank securities.
Intragovernmental
Holdings -- Government Account Series securities held by
Government trust funds, revolving funds, and special funds;
and Federal Financing Bank securities. A small amount of
marketable securities are held by government accounts
